NDTV, a household name in India, is one of their largest, oldest, and most trusted sources of news. Adani Group, which acquired the NDTV, also acquired BQ Prime (erstwhile Bloomberg Quint), a leader in business and financial news, and relaunched it as NDTV Profit.
BQ Prime (now NDTV Profit) sees itself as a technology-first company and wanted to set itself apart. They reached out to SoluteLabs looking at the mobile experiences we had made for The Ken (our apps were featured on the app store twice). We not only built the mobile experiences but also a SSO from scratch, now being adopted across the entire NDTV family.
To efficiently manage millions of potential users across NDTV Profit’s web and mobile platforms while keeping operational costs low, we implemented a scalable, secure Single Sign-On (SSO) solution. This new system replaced the existing proprietary solution, reducing complexity and improving both performance and user experience.
Leveraging our prior experience with Quintype, a CMS tailored for news publishers, we accelerated the go-to-market timeline and delivered a superior solution for NDTV Profit. Our deep familiarity with Quintype’s documentation, along with our established relationship with their team, allowed us to swiftly resolve technical challenges, ensuring a smoother development process.
Although the mobile apps were primarily built natively, we integrated hybrid sections to accommodate dynamic content while ensuring seamless functionality. Sections such as Markets, Budgets, and Elections required dynamic elements rendered through HTML, while deep linking was maintained for the native components.
Recognizing that NDTV Profit’s audience accesses content on a wide range of devices, including users with visual impairments, we prioritized accessibility throughout the app. We implemented adjustable font sizes to enhance readability and integrated both light and dark modes, accommodating different user preferences and ensuring an inclusive experience for everyone, regardless of their device or visual abilities.
Before rebranding to NDTV Profit, BQPrime had a significant base of paid subscribers. To boost Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), relying solely on ad revenue was not sustainable. We integrated Accesstype, part of the Quintype product suite, into the mobile platforms, enabling seamless subscription management alongside in-app purchases and webhook integrations. Our team conducted rigorous testing to ensure flawless functionality and a smooth user experience.
